چکیده

This work demonstrates the use of feedback control, coupled with a suitable actuator design, in manufacturing thin films whose surface morphology is characterized by a desired visible light reflectance/transmittance level. The problem is particularly important in the context of thin film manufacturing for thin film solar cells where it is desirable to produce thin films with precisely tailored light trapping characteristics.

Improving the optical properties of thin film plasmonic solar cells of InP absorber layer using nanowires

In this paper, a thin-film InP-based solar cell designed and simulated. The proposed InP solar cell has a periodic array of plasmonic back-reflector, which consists of a silver layer and two silver nanowires. The indium tin oxide (ITO) layer also utilized as an anti-reflection coating (ARC) layer on top. The design creates a light-trapping structure by using a plasmonic back-reflector and an an...

Simulation and control of aggregate surface morphology in a two-stage thin film deposition process for improved light trapping

This work focuses on the development of a model predictive control algorithm to simultaneously regulate the aggregate surface slope and roughness of a thin film growth process to optimize thin film light reflectance and transmittance. Specifically, a two-stage thin film deposition process, which involves two microscopic processes: an adsorption process and a migration process, is modeled based ...

Influence of interface morphologies on amorphous silicon thin film solar cells prepared on randomly textured substrates

The influence of the interface morphologies on amorphous silicon thin-film solar cells prepared on randomly textured substrates was studied. A simple three-dimensional geometrical model was developed to describe the surface morphology of amorphous silicon films and thin-film solar cells. The simulated surface morphologies are confirmed by experimental measurements. A detailed understanding of t...

Self-Organized Nanoscale Roughness Engineering for Broadband Light Trapping in Thin Film Solar Cells

We present a self-organized method based on defocused ion beam sputtering for nanostructuring glass substrates which feature antireflective and light trapping effects. By irradiating the substrate, capped with a thin gold (Au) film, a self-organized Au nanowire stencil mask is firstly created. The morphology of the mask is then transferred to the glass surface by further irradiating the substra...

Preparation of Cr-doped TiO2 thin film by sonochemical/CVD method and its visible light photocatalytic activity for degradation of paraoxon

In this work, nanostructured TiO2 and Cr-doped TiO2 thin films were deposited on glass substrate through sonochemical-chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method. The resulting thin films were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), UV-visible absorption spectroscopy, and photoluminescence spectroscopy techniques. The TiO2 thin film has nanocubic morphology and ...
